Artist · Animator · Outdoor Adventurer
Grade 9 complete at Cairine Wilson Secondary School — with a sketchbook always on the go, a love of the outdoors, and a future somewhere at the intersection of art and health sciences.
About
Kaitlyn just wrapped up Grade 9 at Cairine Wilson Secondary School — a year that took her from the art room to the canoe, from the snowshoe trail to the orienteering course. One of the genuine highlights was Outdoor Education, where she got to experience adventures that most people only read about: snowshoeing, orienteering, cycling, and canoeing.
Art has always been at the centre of things for Kaitlyn. She's a multimedia artist with a real passion for drawing and animation, and has taken several extracurricular art classes to keep developing her craft. Whether she's sketching characters, experimenting with animation, or illustrating something just for the fun of it, there's always something in progress.
She's a fun-loving, kind, and deeply empathetic person — someone who genuinely cares about the people around her. She loves hanging out with her besties, gaming together, and marathoning medical dramas (a passion that, it turns out, is pointing her toward a future in the health sciences — possibly cardiology or medical imaging).
"I want to do something that actually helps people — and I think health sciences is where art and care come together for me."
— Kaitlyn Thornton

Art · Ongoing
Multimedia Art & Animation
Kaitlyn's creative practice spans drawing, illustration, and animation — always experimenting and always improving. She brings a genuine eye for character and storytelling to everything she makes, whether it's a quick sketch or a longer animation project.
Art · Extracurricular
Extracurricular Art Classes
Beyond what's on the timetable, Kaitlyn has pursued several art classes as extracurricular activities — investing her own time in building skills and exploring different media. The kind of initiative that separates someone who likes art from someone who takes it seriously.
Outdoor Education · Grade 9
Snowshoeing, Orienteering, Cycling & Canoeing
Outdoor Education was one of the standout experiences of Grade 9 — getting outside the classroom and into genuine adventure. Snowshoeing through winter trails, navigating with a compass, cycling routes, and paddling canoes: four very different skills, all picked up in one course.
Future Path · Health Sciences
Aspiring Cardiology or X-Ray Technician
A love of medical dramas sparked something real: Kaitlyn is drawn to health sciences and is thinking seriously about a future as a cardiology or X-ray technician. It's a field that combines precision, care, and a genuine desire to help people — all things Kaitlyn already brings to everything she does.
What I bring
Drawing & Illustration
A natural visual communicator with years of drawing practice behind her. Comfortable working across styles and subjects, and always developing — through classes, personal projects, and a genuine love of the craft.
Animation
Brings drawings to life through animation — understanding how movement, timing, and expression work together to tell a story. It's a patient, technical skill that also demands creativity, and Kaitlyn approaches it with both.
Empathy & People Skills
Genuinely kind and caring — the sort of person others feel comfortable around. These aren't soft skills in Kaitlyn's case; they're the foundation of who she is, and exactly what the health sciences field looks for in its people.
Outdoor & Physical Skills
A year of Outdoor Education introduced real hands-on competencies: navigating with a compass, snowshoeing, cycling, and canoeing. Comfortable in the outdoors and willing to try new things.
Attention to Detail
Whether she's refining a line in an illustration or following a pattern carefully in an art class, Kaitlyn works with care and precision. Detail-orientation comes naturally to someone whose artistic eye is always noticing what others miss.
Curiosity & Enthusiasm
The kind of person who leans into new experiences rather than away from them. Whether it's a new art medium, a canoe, or a medical drama that sparks a whole new career idea — Kaitlyn approaches things with openness and genuine enthusiasm.
